8-9 South Street
Development

Introduction
8–9 South Street sits in the middle of one of Worthing’s most familiar thoroughfares, a street people pass along daily on their way between the town centre, the seafront, shops, cafés and public transport. We is undertaking a sensitive redevelopment of the building, creating two new apartments above an updated and flexible commercial unit.
The ambition is simple: to keep the familiar presence of the building on the street while bringing it up to a modern standard so it remains useful for decades to come.
The Vision
Our approach is grounded in care and practicality. The goal is to deliver a building that feels familiar from the outside while offering a significantly improved experience inside for both residents and a future commercial tenant.
The project focuses on:
Practical, durable build quality
Modern living standards
A flexible and well-serviced commercial unit
Long-term sustainability and low running costs
A respectful continuation of the site’s role in the town centre
It is an evolution, not a reinvention.

8-9 South Street
this building sits in the middle of one of Worthing’s most familiar thoroughfares, a street people pass along daily on their way between the town centre, the seafront, shops, cafés and public transport. We is undertaking a sensitive redevelopment of the building, creating two new apartments above an updated and flexible commercial unit.
The ambition is simple: to keep the familiar presence of the building on the street while bringing it up to a modern standard so it remains useful for decades to come.
History
South Street has long been one of Worthing’s anchor high-street locations, a practical, well-used route that reflects the town’s changing character across generations. The buildings along it have naturally adapted over time as businesses, tastes and uses shift. 8–9 South Street has followed that same pattern.
For many years, the building was home to Crouch the Jewellers, a respected local retailer whose presence formed part of the traditional mix of independents that once defined the high street.
In the 90's and early 2000's it was the home for Pizza Hut in Worthing, then subsequently used as a William Hill betting shop.
More recently, the building shifted again, this time towards community use. The team behind the Climate Resilience Centre Worthing (CREW) ran workshops, talks, small markets and sustainability-focused events from the address. For a time, it became a meeting point for local groups, food-waste initiatives, environmental organisations and residents interested in community projects.
Across all these chapters, jewellers, bookmakers, community hub, the common thread is activity. 8–9 South Street has always been a working building, a space in use, with people coming and going and something happening inside.
The redevelopment treats this as the next chapter in a long storyline. Rather than wiping everything away, it focuses on making the building fit for the future while respecting the continuity of its past.
